Miz Bear AWESOME. And Mike, great job.
Everyone is doing well in July. I need to keep my weight loss going so I can stay in the 150s for good this time.
Tommorrow is my weigh in.

Hi,
I'm working hard to get a hold of my eating, sleeping, and exercising patterns. (They've been nuts since May!)
To that end I completely cleaned out the pantry, refrigerator, and freezer. On my quest to go vegetarian, I got rid of the food in the freezer.
My past excuse was, I'll just eat the food in here that may or may not be good for me to use it up and not waste it ---- then I'll worry about being healthier later. (...umm, NO!) I had meat and half used bags of food and frozen left overs from last winter. Yum, freezer burn. Clearly, I wasn't in any hurry to eat this food. So, out it went.
I got rid of processed foods, condiments ---I'm sorry to say a few had a "use by date" of up to 4 years ago. It's amazing I hadn't gotten some kind of food poisoning.
Now I'm cleaned out, cleaned up, and restocked. I made my menu for the week for breakfast lunch and dinners along with 1-2 snacks a day if needed. My goal was to buy only what I needed and use my leftovers in a smart way.
I also wanted to have foods that were colorful, low fat, low calorie, smart for what my body needs at my age, vegetarian, AND tasted really good.
Wow! Not too demanding huh?
I didn't want to get bored or end up heading for way too much bread or cheese to fill in for meat.
Day three---So far so good!
Tomorrow I'll post some recipes in the recipe board. They are:
Golden Potato and smoked gouda tart. (4 servings, use yukon gold not white potatoes)
Grilled Vegetable Panini with olive oil, oregano, and provolone on a chibatta roll ---LOVE the farmer's market veggies!
Shrimp Jambalaya (I can't type that word without an audio of Kramer from Seinfeld in my head. If you've seen the episode---you know.)
Indian Curry Vegetables ---in the slow cooker, couldn't be easier! (That's on Wednesday's menu..so I haven't tried it yet.
Good health to everyone. I hope you're having a great week.

Tina- If you need help with your vegetarian menus, there are several great veg cookbooks out there- including ones by Moosewood Restaurant (which serves veg dishes). Vegetarian Times website also has recipes on it- I grab my grandmother's issues second hand. And make sure you measure your fats- I have an associate who is veg, she thinks that because she doesn't eat meats she can have all the oil, seeds, and nuts she wants- but wonders why she doesn't lose weight.
My niece had a hissy because she figured out after all these years that I put anchovies and mushrooms (amongst other veggies) in my spaghetti sauce... she told me she wants the version I serve to my mother (allergic to fish and mushrooms) from now on. She really would have flipped out if she saw all the pureed veggies going in... Carrots and spinach and whatever I have oh my! _________________ SW- 200

My biggest struggle today is always making the choice to do it all over again. Each day, everyday. Track calories ... eat this ... don't eat that ... work out ...
How do you keep going every day? Do you give yourself new challenges? _________________ SD: 8.23.09

Hey Chicago.
I'm finding that sticking to a weekly menu is working for me. It's allowing me to be more aware of my spending and using ingredients in new ways.
Having the meals planned out in advance lets me prepare food ahead of time instead of fall into my weakness...."I'm too tired to cook for myself tonight or I'll just work a few more hours and then grab something on the way home." This causes me to spend too much, eat too much, or pack on the lbs because of hidden fats and sodium.
I hope that helps.
I think it's a decision to start over every day for all or most of us.

187!!!! I am 26% to my short term goal weight.
What is helping me is a) I am no longer eating at the computer.
I have made a list of what can eat from out when I am stuck at my mom and grandmother's. I am eating a lot of veggies and portioning the meats and starches. I have cut my meats out almost completely- but my nieces lie the way I cook a roast- what can I say... so I buy Amish meat.
I am going to try another music competiton the beginning of next month- county fair. _________________ SW- 200

Miz Bear you are doing great. Maybe you can get down to where you doctor wanted you to be by August.
Me, I stayed the same this week, but that is a big WIN to just stay in the 150s.
I updated the standings...Everyone is doing good for the second month in a row.
Do we want to do the standings again in August?
